As the 103rd anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey is celebrated, the proclamation process carried out in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) on October 29, 1923 under the leadership of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the importance of the Republic in our history were reiterated.
The Republic, which was decided upon at the Çankaya Mansion on the night of October 28, 1923, following the liberation of Anatolia from occupation, and proclaimed with the vote held in the TBMM at 20:30 on October 29, 1923, determined Turkey's form of government. Mustafa Kemal Pasha was elected as the first President of the new state.
The Republic was not merely a change in the form of government; it was implemented as a broad enlightenment and development revolution extending from education to women's rights through steps such as the Unification of Education Law of 1924, the Turkish Civil Code of 1926, and the Alphabet Revolution of 1928.
