With contributions from institutions and companies such as DeltaV, Plan-S, TÜBİTAK UZAY, TUSAŞ, and ASELSAN, Turkey is building a unique and complementary ecosystem in space studies; projects such as the Lunar Research Program and the Somalia Space Base, coming to life in 2027, mark a turning point in the country's space journey.

Complementary Space Ecosystem

DeltaV operates in hybrid rocket engines, Plan-S in small satellite technologies, TÜBİTAK UZAY in satellite development projects, TUSAŞ in space systems, and ASELSAN in space electronics and communications. This structure allows organizations specializing in different technologies to complement one another for a sustainable space industry.

Lunar Research Program Preparations

The production, assembly, and integration work for the first lunar spacecraft, weighing approximately 3.5 tons, has been completed and sent to the TUSAŞ Space Systems Integration and Test Center for system-level environmental testing.

Developed by the Turkish Space Agency with a domestic production rate of over 80 percent, the spacecraft is targeted to be launched following environmental tests.

Deep Space and Hybrid Propulsion Tests

The initial mission, planned for 2027, aims to test the hybrid propulsion technology developed by Turkey under deep space conditions.

While a soft landing on the lunar surface is not targeted in this mission, the priority is to reach the Moon and gain capabilities in deep space communication and mission management.

Somalia Space Base Project

According to statements by TUA President Yusuf Kıraç, the Somalia Space Base will be completed in 2027 and is stated to serve friendly and allied countries.

Alongside the lunar mission and the Somalia Space Base, 2027 is poised to be a historic year in Turkey's space journey regarding new projects from the private sector.
