UC San Diego Launches Center for Principled Agentic Intelligence

The University of California San Diego (UC San Diego) has announced the establishment of the Center for Principled Agentic Intelligence (CPAi) to promote human oversight, alignment, and independent evaluation of artificial intelligence systems.

Established in partnership with the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute and the School of Arts and Humanities, the center will bring together researchers from data science, high-performance computing, arts, and the humanities. The center will evaluate the reliability of artificial intelligence systems by examining their impacts on human values and accountability.

CPAi has launched with $1 million in support over three years and $250,000 in shared computing resources. Shaping its work around three core principles—alignment, trust, and responsibility—the center aims to develop an open-source testing environment for the evaluation of autonomous artificial intelligence systems.
