The University of Plymouth has announced the launch of a £275,000 project aimed at helping the tourism industry keep pace with developments in artificial intelligence. This initiative will enable students and graduates to work together with individuals in the tourism field across various joint initiatives.

Rong Huang, Tourism and Hospitality Programme Manager at Plymouth Business School, stated that the project brings together students, industry partners, and regional employers, with learning taking place through real business problems. Meanwhile, Claire Steiner from the Institute of Travel and Tourism emphasized that artificial intelligence is transforming working methods in the travel sector, drawing attention to the importance of employees possessing the necessary skills and confidence to make good use of this technology.

The South West Visitor Economy AI Skills Accelerator program is being run in partnership with the university, the Institute of Travel and Tourism, Destination Plymouth, Women in Travel CIC, Building Brands, and Brand Biscuit. The university called on tourism, hospitality, and marketing businesses wishing to host an internship or placement program or propose artificial intelligence challenges to get in touch, while also inviting graduates and professionals looking to develop their skills to register.
