Trump, Putin reach deal to release Russian diesel to world

US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have reached an agreement to release Russian diesel to American and global markets in order to lower rising fuel costs ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. This move marks a significant shift in Washington's policy toward Moscow since the start of the war in Ukraine.

Agreement Reached During Phone Call

US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that they had agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin on releasing Russian diesel to global markets.

Trump shared on social media that they reached this agreement with Putin during what was expected to be a phone call about a suspected disease outbreak in Russia.

Gradual Shipment Plan and License

According to the announced plan, Russia will initially supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel, and another 500,000 tons will be added to this amount in November.

The US Department of Treasury issued a temporary license allowing Russian diesel to reach global markets until April 2027.

Assessments by Russia and the Kremlin

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated that his country is ready to begin additional diesel shipments to the US and other countries starting in October.

The Kremlin announced that the leaders also discussed the resolution of the Ukraine crisis, the situation in Iran, and bilateral relations during the call.

Harshest Reaction and Diplomacy from Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the easing of sanctions without any lasting agreement, describing it as a sign of weakness.

Meanwhile, US, Ukrainian, and European officials met in Miami for diplomatic talks aimed at ending the conflicts.
