Oil prices decline on expectations of diesel supply from Russia
Global oil markets experienced a downward movement following expectations of additional diesel supplies from Russia and a temporary easing of sanctions.
Oil prices declined on Tuesday, following gains in the previous session, driven by the prospect of additional diesel supplies from Russia and the U.S. temporarily lifting sanctions on Russian fuel.
Current Situation in Oil Prices
Oil prices fell on Tuesday following a nearly $2 increase in the previous session, as investors began to reassess supply risks.
Brent crude futures dropped 0.57% to trade at $104.04 per barrel, while U.S. crude lost 0.5% to trade at $93.27.
Previous Level of Brent Crude
Closing at $106.65 on Monday, Brent crude had reached its highest level since September 15.
Diesel Supply from Russia and Sanctions
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Russia has agreed to supply diesel to global markets.
The Trump administration also temporarily lifted U.S. sanctions on Russian fuel, which were aimed at depriving Moscow of revenues from the war in Ukraine.
Global Supply Crunch and Market Impact
This additional supply is expected to ease the current tightness in global fuel markets and reduce concerns that have recently supported prices.
Legislative Debate in U.S. Domestic Policy
Lawmakers from both parties in the U.S. argued that this agreement made by Trump with Russian President Vladimir Putin may violate the law.
Lawmakers pointed to U.S. legislation banning Russian energy imports until Moscow completely ends its aggression against Ukraine.
Market Analysts' Assessments
KCM Trade Chief Analyst Tim Waterer stated that new diesel supplies from Russia and more stable shipments from Saudi Arabia have provided some relief to the market.
Waterer emphasized that the market is focusing on the risk of new attacks that could target vessels or pipelines in the Gulf, rather than additional supply developments.
