According to an internal cable sent to US Department of State personnel, pursuant to President Donald Trump's September 29 executive order, the terms "Super Intelligence" and the abbreviation "SI" will be used instead of the term "artificial intelligence" in all official correspondence, programs, and systems.

The department-wide cable sent on Monday mandates the use of "Super Intelligence" or "SI" in new letters, emails, public messages, websites, reports, speeches, and policy documents, with the exception of legal exemptions. Existing materials will be updated during subsequent revisions by personnel.

The instructions implement an administration terminology change aimed at reflecting the capabilities of American technology. However, for now, the new term refers to the same systems encompassed by the existing legal definition for artificial intelligence. Names of foreign organizations and references such as China's World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization will be preserved in internal correspondence.

Specific exceptions have been established for areas such as legal citations, contracts, grants, previously published documents, and archived web pages. Certain units and programs, such as the American SI Export Program, have already begun to be referred to by their new names.
