US Secretary of State Marco Rubio traveled to India on Tuesday to strengthen trade ties and meet with business leaders during a period of strained relations between the two nations.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited India to engage in trade negotiations and meet with the country's leading business figures. During the visit, Rubio, who met with his counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, is also expected to meet with executives of companies with significant assets in America, including Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani.

While diplomatic talks covered developments in the Middle East and energy issues, the US side is requesting that India reduce its dependence on Russian oil. It was noted that Mumbai was chosen to focus on commercial diplomacy, and a senior US official stated that the two countries are close to finalizing a bilateral trade agreement. Rubio is also scheduled to travel to Jamnagar to visit the world's largest oil refinery, owned by Reliance Industries, and the Vantara wildlife rescue center.
