Four major U.S. banks have decided to block unauthorized external artificial intelligence agents accessing customer accounts from transferring funds. While Charles Schwab, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Citigroup continue to allow read-only access to accounts, they have closed the door on money movements.

Charles Schwab CEO Rick Wurster stated that across all brokerage clients, access attempts by large, unauthorized AI agents such as Meta’s Muse are blocked ten to twenty times a week. JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon also warned about "aggressive agents" during the third-quarter earnings call, stating that external agents would not be allowed into the bank.

Bank of America adopted a conditional approach rather than a total ban. The bank is limiting agent access to consumer deposits until it establishes protocols determining which party will be responsible for payments authorized by an AI. CEO Brian Moynihan emphasized that a human must remain in the loop for approving outgoing funds from an account, while Citigroup announced that as of Friday, it would not allow third-party agents to log into accounts or execute transactions.
