James Comer, Chairman of the US House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has requested documents concerning the initiative proposed by Delaware Governor Matt Meyer's administration for companies managed by artificial intelligence, citing a lack of transparency and concerns over legal liability shields.

James Comer, Chairman of the US House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and Republican Representative from Kentucky, has requested information regarding the state of Delaware's plan to create a new legal corporate entity for companies managed by artificial intelligence agents. Comer expressed concerns that this proposal could shield powerful bad actors from legal liability. The letter in question indicates that Congress may explore ways to limit states' artificial intelligence regulatory initiatives.

In his letter, Comer stated concerns that Delaware's Artificial Intelligence Corporation proposal could be used to shield powerful artificial intelligence companies and investors from accountability for reckless and harmful actions. Governor Matt Meyer's deputy press secretary reported that the office is reviewing the letter. The Artificial Intelligence Corporation proposal and public-private partnership were announced in July in Fortune magazine by Secretary of State Charuni Patibanda-Sanchez and Norm AI founder and CEO John Nay.

Comer's letter drew attention to a lack of transparency in Delaware's public-private partnership with Norm AI. The oversight committee requested that documents and communications regarding the Artificial Intelligence Corporation plan be submitted starting from January 1, 2025, while setting November 9 as the deadline for a response.
