US President Trump suspends sanctions on Russia for 60 days
US President Donald Trump has initiated a 60-day period to review the economic impacts of sanctions and customs tariffs on Russia. In this context, some sanctions scheduled to take effect have been temporarily halted by executive order.
US President Donald Trump announced that he has suspended the sanctions and customs tariffs planned against Russia for 60 days. This decision, which covers a portion of the sanctions enacted in September, was taken to evaluate the economic effects of the regulations in question.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the suspension of the sanctions is a step taken in line with the national interests of the United States. Rubio expressed that this decision covers not only Russia but also customs tariffs that could affect countries like India, which import Russian energy resources. The review process was initiated two days before the sanctions were set to take effect.
Rubio also clarified that the US administration has not issued any instructions to reduce the connection speed of the Starlink system in Ukraine. The decision comes at a time when tensions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy persist.
