Vietnam Hosts ASEAN Science and Technology Cooperation via COSTI-90 Conference
Held in Da Nang, the meeting aims to develop regional research and innovation capacity in line with the action plan for the 2026-2035 period.
Hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology in Da Nang, the 90th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation is addressing cooperation processes among member states and new-era strategies.
Purpose and Scope of the Conference
Implemented during the initial phase of the ASEAN Plan of Action on Science, Technology and Innovation 2026-2035, this important gathering reviews progress in cooperation across the region.
Within the scope of the meeting, new priority areas are being determined, with the goal of connecting research and innovation capacities among member states.
Participants and New Professional Structure
Approximately 250 delegates, consisting of representatives from ASEAN member countries' relevant agencies, the secretariat, partners, and international scientists, attended the conference.
With this session, a change was made to COSTI's professional structure, reducing the number of sub-committees from nine to five in order to increase coordination.
Working Areas of the Sub-Committees
The five sub-committees formed within the framework of the new structure cover critical topics such as ecosystems, advanced technologies, biotechnology, energy, and earth sciences.
Strategic topics such as human resources, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and clean energy were discussed in detail during the parallel meetings held on the first day.
Vietnam's Role in the Conference
As the host, Vietnam has assumed the chairmanship of the Sub-Committee on Earth, Ocean, and Space Sciences within the updated institutional structure.
The country actively contributes to coordination in these technological areas, which are critical for the region's sustainable development and global competitiveness.
