Vietnam Ministry of Health tightens inspections on counterfeit products in the health sector
The Vietnam Ministry of Health has requested local authorities to increase inspections and strengthen inter-agency coordination to combat the production of counterfeit products, commercial fraud, and illegal drug sales in the health sector.
The Vietnam Ministry of Health has launched a comprehensive inspection process against illegal activities in the health sector nationwide, such as the production and trade of counterfeit products and the violation of intellectual property rights. With an instruction signed by Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen, local authorities are required to implement intensive inspection plans covering routes, warehouses, distribution centers, and e-commerce platforms.
Within the scope of the new regulation, efforts will be made to prevent the sale of non-compliant prescription drugs via digital platforms and the introduction of substandard medical products into the market. Provincial and municipal health departments are expected to act in a coordinated manner by sharing data with units stationed at border gates, ports, and airports.
While cases with complex or inter-provincial connections are required to be reported directly to the Ministry of Health, the use of QR codes and electronic labeling systems will be encouraged to increase traceability in medical products.
