Volkswagen Group reports billions of euros in losses for the third quarter
The Volkswagen Group, which houses brands such as Audi, Porsche, and Skoda, announced an operating loss of 5.9 billion euros and a net loss of 2.7 billion euros in the third quarter.
The Volkswagen Group suffered a major financial loss in the third quarter of 2026, driven by an impairment charge at Porsche and a contraction in the Chinese market. The company recorded an operating loss of 5.9 billion euros during this period.
The Volkswagen Group, owner of the Audi, Bugatti, Seat, Skoda, and Porsche brands, announced its financial results for the July-September period. Accordingly, the company reported an operating loss of 5.9 billion euros for the quarter in question. Analysts had projected a loss of 2.6 billion euros for this period. The net loss after taxes stood at 2.7 billion euros; in the same period of the previous year, a net profit of 3.4 billion euros had been achieved.
While the group's sales revenue in the third quarter declined by 6.3 percent to 75.28 billion euros, global vehicle deliveries dropped by 14.3 percent to 1.885 million units. Deliveries in the Chinese market decreased by 38.5 percent to 406 thousand units. This decline in the financial statements was influenced by a 6.4 billion euro impairment charge on Porsche's brand value—which did not require cash outflow—and write-downs in China. Total one-off negative impacts amounted to 7.8 billion euros. In the January-September period, the total net loss reached 2.72 billion euros, while a period loss was reported in the Chinese market for the first time since the company began operating there.
