Konya'da bir yaşındaki bebeğin akciğerinden ceviz çıktı

One-year-old Cabir Ata Kıran, living in Konya, struggled to breathe after swallowing one of the walnuts his sister was playing with following his birthday celebration. The baby, whose condition worsened after being referred to Konya City Hospital upon his family's report, had the walnut removed from his left lung in pieces through ECMO and bronchoscopy operations.

Cabir Ata Kıran, the second child of Edanur and Nafis Kıran, was left breathless after swallowing a foreign object while playing with walnuts belonging to his sister at home. After receiving initial intervention from medical teams following a report to the 112 Emergency Call Center, the baby was transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Konya City Hospital as his condition deteriorated. With his left lung blocked and oxygen levels dropping, the ECMO heart-lung support device was activated due to the life-threatening situation.

It was stated that because his oxygen saturation was at the 50 percent level, a direct bronchoscopy could not be performed, and due to this risky situation, ECMO support was provided first. A tracheostomy was performed on the baby due to severe edema in the upper respiratory tract, and a bronchoscopy was subsequently applied. During the operation, which lasted until morning, the walnut in the left lung was broken into pieces and removed. Op. Dr. Murat Şimşek, who performed the operation, noted that the baby was awakened after the walnut was removed, disconnected from the ECMO device, and that his recovery process is now under routine observation.
