Websites are closing their doors to AI agents

Autonomous agents developed by companies such as OpenAI, Meta, Google, and xAI are facing mounting blocks imposed by major websites and online services.

Users employing services like Meta's Muse, xAI's Grok, and OpenAI's Dots have reported being blocked from performing transactions on various popular platforms. Yelp stated that it only allows AI agents that pay for its data licensing program, while Delta Air Lines prevents agents from booking tickets. JPMorgan Chase and Charles Schwab have confirmed blocking agents from accessing accounts due to security concerns. Furthermore, sites like Cars.com and Amtrak are reportedly no longer accessible to these agents either.

Amazon is actively combating AI agents by banning Perplexity's agentic shopping feature and suing the startup, while arguing that Meta's Muse app violates its site policies. Although some technology companies like Meta have established partnerships with retailers such as Walmart, Gap, Sephora, and Best Buy and opened up the Shopify network, AI agents frequently clash with anti-bot systems and web infrastructure providers like Cloudflare, raising questions about their long-term usability.
