YİRMİ platform developed for university students exceeds 70 thousand

The social media platform named 'YİRMİ', developed by Boğaziçi University Department of Computer Engineering 4th-year student Mustafa Çağan İslam and his friends Berk Sönmez and Ömer Selçik, has reached over 70 thousand members and more than 100 thousand downloads.

The platform, which only individuals with a university email extension can register for, was developed in August 2025 and opened to users in September. Named because most members are in their twenties and harbor the goal of expanding abroad in the future, the application aims for students from different universities to meet and come together for joint events, projects, or competitions.

The mobile application, which has a daily active user count varying between 1500 and 2000, ranks as the third most downloaded application in the social network category and is actively used in 81 provinces. While 65 percent of the members participate from Istanbul, the higher education institution with the most users is Istanbul Technical University. As part of security measures, content is monitored by machine learning algorithms, and sharing phone numbers and other social media usernames is not permitted.
