YouTube Music introduces new labeling system for artificial intelligence songs
With the rise of content generated by artificial intelligence on music streaming platforms, YouTube Music has announced new categorization labels to increase transparency for listeners.
YouTube Music has launched a new labeling system consisting of Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI, and No Gen AI to make it easier to understand songs produced with artificial intelligence.
New Transparency Labels
YouTube Music announced that it has rolled out a new labeling system for users in order to increase transparency in songs created with the help of artificial intelligence.
Listeners will be able to see tracks created using artificial intelligence—including compositions and vocals—directly on the player page.
Scope of Label Categories
Music partners will be able to report the artificial intelligence usage status of their works on YouTube as Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI, or No Gen AI.
While Fully Gen AI covers works produced entirely with artificial intelligence, Partly Gen AI defines artificial intelligence components where artists have added live elements.
Approaches of Other Platforms
This move comes as music produced by artificial intelligence rapidly spreads across streaming services, while other platforms are also adopting their own approaches.
Services such as Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, and TIDAL are also taking various measures to flag and filter artificial intelligence content.
YouTube's Monetization Policy
Focusing on informing rather than blocking content, YouTube states that artificial intelligence involvement alone does not disqualify a track from the right to earn money.
The company is also testing artificial intelligence-powered tools like Dream Track, which allows selected creators to generate voices.
