AI bootcamps launched in the UK to reduce youth unemployment

The UK government has launched a new pilot training program in Preston to tackle the problem of youth unemployment and close the skills gap in artificial intelligence.

Pilot Program in Preston

At a youth center called The Vault, located opposite Preston bus station, an important step is being taken against two major challenges facing the national economy: artificial intelligence and youth unemployment. Within the scope of this pilot application in the northwest region, artificial intelligence training is provided for young people aged between 16 and 24.

Status and Scope of Young People

The number of young people in the UK who are not in education, employment, or training has reached approximately one million, accounting for more than one-tenth of the population in that age group. Supported by taxpayer funds, these three-week bootcamps target 70 young people who are NEET or facing this risk.

Training Content and Partners

Participants are trained in creating AI tools, understanding the applications of the technology in the business world, and implementing it responsibly. Partner organizations such as JD Sports, Heinz, and Agilysys offer apprenticeship opportunities in marketing and IT upon completion of the course.

Views of Experts and Participants

Lauren Monks, one of the executives at IN4 Group running the program, stated that this initiative acts as a bridge that increases productivity and integrates artificial intelligence into organizations. Participants Khudeija Rafique and Remy Simms also stated that their perspective on working with AI has changed in a positive direction.
