Seattle-based artificial intelligence startup Nuance Labs has secured $50 million in a Series A funding round aimed at bringing human expression and nuance to AI models.

Details of the Investment Round

The funding round, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, saw participation from existing backers Accel and South Park Commons. Additionally, NVIDIA and Define Ventures were among the new investors.

Founding Purpose of the Startup

Founded in early 2025 by former Apple PhD researchers Fangchang Ma, Edward Zhang, and Karren Yang, the company is developing a foundational artificial intelligence model that simultaneously detects human expressions.

Technological Infrastructure and Features

The developed single full-duplex foundational model can directly process live audiovisual signals instead of chaining tools such as transcription, text generation, voice, and animation.

Future Plans and Total Capital

With this new funding, the company aims to accelerate model development processes and focus heavily on team expansion efforts. Total capital has reached $60 million.
