Bradford skin cancer waiting times cut by new AI technology

The dermatology team at St Luke's Hospital in Bradford began using an artificial intelligence system called DERM in April to examine suspicious skin lesions.

AI-Powered Dermatology Processes

Launched in April at St Luke's Hospital, the artificial intelligence system named DERM (Deep Ensemble for the Recognition of Malignancy) is actively used in the examination of suspicious skin lesions.

Capacity Increase and Rapid Analysis

Thanks to the technology developed by Skin Analytics, clinics have increased their patient capacity per session from 24 to 32. Photographs taken by healthcare staff are uploaded to the system and analyzed within minutes.

Decrease in Biopsy Rates

Through the system, benign cases are discharged while suspicious conditions are referred to specialists. While every image is reviewed by a clinician, unnecessary biopsy rates have decreased by approximately 10 percent.

NHS-Wide Expansion and Approval

Recommended for NHS use by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, the technology is implemented in 40 hospital trusts across the country, with Bradford Teaching Hospitals becoming the first center in Yorkshire in this field.
