Autonomous AI Can Boost Dermatology Clinic Capacity
According to research presented at a meeting in Vienna, the use of autonomous AI in urgent skin cancer pathways increases dermatologists' capacity by 62 percent.
According to new research presented at the annual meeting of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, the integration of autonomous AI in urgent skin cancer pathways increases physicians' clinical capacity by 62 percent while shortening working time.
Research Details and Methodology
Lucy Thomas and colleagues from Imperial College London implemented a Class III medical device AI across two hospital sites. The research was shared with participants at the meeting held in Vienna between September and October.
Process and Findings
While cases classified as benign were discharged autonomously without physician review, high-risk cases were referred for teledermatologist evaluation. A total of 8,391 patients were managed through the autonomous pathway, and the approval rate for autonomous decision-making was recorded at 86 percent.
