Cornell University has incorporated five new faculty members specializing in artificial intelligence and data science as part of the Radical Collaboration initiative.

Scope and Objectives of the Initiative

Cornell University has taken a strategic step to increase its expertise in artificial intelligence and data science. The hires made in this direction represent an interdisciplinary effort bringing together different faculties and institutes across the campus.

Participation of New Academics

CDSES Director David Shmoys and Vice Provost for AI Strategy Thorsten Joachims emphasized that these new additions are of critical importance in advancing artificial intelligence research.

Areas of Expertise of the Faculty

danah boyd joined the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) as the Geri Gay Professor of Communication. Meanwhile, Jelena Bradic started serving as a professor of statistics and data science.

Future Semester Plans

Maryam Fazel will join the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the spring 2027 semester. Shoham Sabach and Jiang-Xun Wang will also continue their research in related engineering departments.
