Debates on age limits and identity verification on social media
According to EDAM research, the majority of society approaches age limits and e-Government verification on social media with caution.
While research by the Centre for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies reveals society's reservations regarding age limits and e-Government identity verification on social media, Bahçeşehir College has banned the use of artificial intelligence in preschools and primary schools.
Public Perspective on Social Media Regulation
Research conducted by the Centre for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies revealed that 45 percent of society supports age limits on social media, while 53 percent want the implementation to be postponed.
The proportion of those unconditionally supporting the regulation remained at 12 percent, with 76 percent of participants believing that the opinions of parents and teachers should be consulted before implementation.
Identity Verification and e-Government Concerns
The anticipation that all users, regardless of age distinction, should verify their identity via e-Government causes concern in 67 percent of survey participants.
EDAM Director Sinan Ülgen stated that a single verification option could increase social concerns and recommended evaluating alternative models.
Uncertainty for Foreign Visitors
There is currently no clear regulation regarding how approximately 60 million tourists visiting Turkey will access their social media accounts.
Sinan Ülgen stated that requiring e-Government verification through Turkey-based IP addresses could cause access problems for tourists and foreign content creators.
Platform Responsibility and Digital Security
It was emphasized that placing obligations solely on users is not sufficient to protect children in the digital environment, and platforms must also assume responsibility.
Experts pointed out that the risk stems not from going online, but from the design choices of the platforms.
Ban on Artificial Intelligence Use in Schools
Bahçeşehir College banned preschool and primary school students from using generative artificial intelligence in classrooms in order to protect students' thinking and problem-solving skills.
It was stated that priority will be given to developing reading, writing, attention, and cause-and-effect relationship-building skills in this age group.
Gradual Education Model and Objectives
It is aimed to provide artificial intelligence literacy education under teacher guidance in middle school, and to use this technology as a supportive tool in research and production processes in high school.
Bahçeşehir College General Manager Dr. Özlem Koç noted that mental struggle develops thinking skills and this process should not be left to artificial intelligence.
