Donald Trump's AI Rebranding Move Explodes Demand for .si Domain
US President Donald Trump's proposal to refer to artificial intelligence as super intelligence has triggered an unprecedented boom in Slovenia's national internet domain registrations.
US President Donald Trump's initiative to rename artificial intelligence technology as "super intelligence" and "SI" has caused an unprecedented surge in internet domain registrations with the .si extension in Slovenia.
Massive Surge in Registrations
Slovenia's official national registry organization, Register.si, announced that 44,000 web addresses with the .si extension were registered in September. In August, this figure was below 2,000, which corresponds to an increase of more than 2,100 percent.
Trump's UN Speech Played a Role
In his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 11, Donald Trump stated that the word "artificial" made the technology appear fake and called for a rebranding. Afterward, he signed an executive order mandating the use of the term SI instead of AI for US government agencies.
Thousands of Registrations Made in a Single Day
Register.si spokesperson Klara Herman emphasized that the periodic activity at the end of September was of an unprecedented scale compared to the last 12 months. It was reported that 11,000 new domain registrations were recorded on September 30 alone.
Possibility of Speculation Being Evaluated
Spokesperson Herman refrained from directly attributing the entire surge to Trump's statements, while stating that speculative domain registrations aimed at making a profit in the future could also be a potential factor in this massive wave.
