Short Films of the 33rd International Adana Golden Boll Film Festival Take Center Stage
The short film competition of the 33rd International Adana Golden Boll Film Festival stands out with productions addressing current issues.
Meeting cinema enthusiasts, the productions in the National Short Film Competition of the 33rd International Adana Golden Boll Film Festival draw attention with their ambitious stories dealing with political themes, the economic crisis, and social realities.
Economic Crisis and Order of Exploitation
Among the productions in the competition, economic hardships and injustices in working life are transferred to cinema. Buse Halaçoğlu's film 'Yakın' (Close) handles poverty and the economic crisis, while Salih Ortaçay's 'Gece Mesaisi' (Night Shift) deals with the order of exploitation in a boutique hotel.
Social Pressures and Property
Other films in the competition examine social structures and property relations under the microscope. While İlayda İşeri's 'Tarla Fareleri' (Field Mice) focuses on the issue of property, Ecre Begüm Bayrak's film 'İstiğfar ya da Kar' (Repentance or Snow) focuses on the pressures of sects and religious communities.
Life After the Earthquake and Growing Up
Individual transformations and post-disaster lives are also processed among the short films. While Yaşar Güney Yurdakul's film 'Bir Gece Kadar Uzak' (As Distant as a Night) conveys the story of Seher living in a container city in Antakya, Dalya Keleş's 'Yerçekimi' (Gravity) tells what a young girl experiences during the growing-up process.
Political Narratives and Prejudices
The productions in the selection also bring social prejudices and political events to the screens. While Berna Sitera Değirmen's 'Aşk ve Diğerleri' (Love and Others) focuses on racist and sexist prejudices, 'Hazirun', written by Ali Cabbar and Erol Küçük, deals with political protests and references made to the moment of Dilek Doğan's killing.
