In a new study conducted by Lukac and colleagues, two different artificial intelligence assistants used in outpatient clinics were evaluated; it was observed that these tools had mixed effects on documentation time and provided positive developments in burnout metrics.

Scope and Methodology of the Study

Lukac and his team conducted a study to compare traditional documentation methods with two different ambient artificial intelligence assistants.

A total of 238 outpatient physicians from 14 different specialties participated in the study, and participants were randomly divided into groups.

Time and Efficiency Findings

As a result of the study, a 9.5% reduction in note-writing time was recorded for physicians using Nabla compared to the control group.

In contrast, it was determined that there was no significant decrease in note-writing time in the group using DAX Copilot.

Burnout and Workload Effects

Positive changes in composite burnout, physician cognitive load, and work fatigue metrics were observed in both artificial intelligence assistant groups.

It was stated that such digital tools could offer an alternative solution against the high cost and accessibility issues of human scribes.

Safety and Accuracy Concerns

During the research process, clinically significant errors were reported in both tools; average errors were determined as 2.8 for Nabla and 2.7 for DAX.

Additionally, it was noted that a mild adverse patient safety event occurred.
