GE Appliances is increasing production efficiency and maintaining its competitive edge by deploying artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, and advanced camera systems at its Roper Corporation plant in Georgia.

AI-Powered Manufacturing Processes

At the Roper Corporation factory located in rural Georgia, assembly lines are equipped with camera systems trained to detect defects.

Inside the facility, autonomous vehicles transport parts to the assembly lines while robots assemble glass cooktops into metal frames.

Error Detection and Immediate Intervention

Tony Gabbert, director of manufacturing operations, states that if the cameras detect an abnormality such as an incorrect gasket, the system halts the relevant line and plays loud music to alert workers.

Speed and early intervention are critical, as stopping the assembly line can result in costs ranging from $300 to $500 per minute.

Data Analytics and Financial Savings

The company has been collecting data through cameras and sensors for over a decade, and the Brilliant Factory data platform provides real-time visibility across nine major appliance factories.

Bill Good, vice president of manufacturing, estimates that every one percent improvement yields annual savings between $1.5 million and $2 million.

Investment and Employment Growth

As part of a $180 million expansion investment, the company has created 600 new jobs in Georgia and has begun using artificial intelligence for staff optimization and demand forecasting.
