Amid ongoing debates in the US over the pace of artificial intelligence model development, it is claimed that Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI have discussed the option of creating a joint body to establish industry standards.

Background of the Discussions

While debates continue regarding slowing down the development speed of artificial intelligence models in the US, it is claimed that leading firms such as Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI have discussed forming an artificial intelligence standards organization.

Claims by Sources

Unnamed sources suggested that firms prominent in artificial intelligence models—Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI—are focusing on the option of establishing their own body to determine industry standards.

It was stated that an article published in July by Google DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis, proposing a US-led artificial intelligence standards body model, was influential in holding the discussions.

Governance and Oversight Debates

Sources arguing that these discussions are ongoing regardless of whether the administration of US President Donald Trump is involved stated that all leaders in the tech sector do not agree on the oversight of artificial intelligence.

In his article, Hassabis had proposed that this institution, overseen by the government and operated through public-private cooperation, should test advanced artificial intelligence models before they are launched.

Amodei's Slowdown Proposal

Following the resignation of researcher Jacob Coxon at the firm, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei had proposed slowing down the development of artificial intelligence technology to allow for greater oversight.

Support from Industry Leaders

Elon Musk supported Amodei, who drew attention to the need for artificial intelligence companies to set safety standards.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also noted that he agreed with the proposal and would take the same step regarding independent evaluation.

The China Factor and International Dimension

Amodei has expressed the possibility of China not doing the same as one of the most difficult dilemmas.
