Anthropic has announced that it has prevented the Claude artificial intelligence model from being misused for biological and conventional weapons, as well as cyber espionage activities.

Threat Intelligence Report Published

The company shared a new report on Thursday because it believes it has a responsibility to disclose the use of its services for malicious purposes.

The report detailed how state-backed groups, criminals, and politically motivated individuals have abused the technology.

Biological and Conventional Weapon Danger

The model's use in ways that could support weapon development was prevented, and five case studies regarding this issue were highlighted.

Six cases were recorded where Claude was attempted to be used in developing software for conventional munitions such as firearms and missiles.

Cyber Espionage and Campaigns

The report noted that Claude models were used in a Russia-linked cyber espionage campaign and by an Iranian propaganda organization.

It was disclosed that cases detected over the past eight months ranged from surveillance systems to fraudulent activities.

Prevention of Misuse

It was stated that the use of Claude Haiku, Sonnet, and Opus models for harmful purposes was blocked between December 2025 and August 2026.

It was emphasized that biological malicious use is one of the most serious risks in terms of frontier AI models.
