An Iran-linked threat actor reportedly used the American-made Claude artificial intelligence model during the wartime process with the US to compile American naval base locations and develop targeting suggestions.
According to a report published by Anthropic, amidst the wartime environment between the US and Iran, an Iran-linked group used American-made artificial intelligence to target US naval forces. The threat actor utilized the Claude AI model to determine military positions by gathering open-source intelligence.

It was disclosed that an Iran-linked threat actor used the American-made Claude artificial intelligence model to compile open-source information, determine the positions of US naval forces, and develop targeting suggestions.
In the report prepared by Anthropic, it was stated that the account in question was banned and the obtained information was shared with the US government in order to neutralize the threat.
Risk of Increase in Cyber Threats
Experts state that such scenarios may become widespread as foreign powers turn to artificial intelligence to strengthen their military operations, accelerate the analysis of publicly available data, and improve missile and drone targeting.
The use of artificial intelligence tools makes it easier for adversaries to understand US military activities, presenting new security challenges regarding operational secrecy.
Influence Campaigns and Access Methods
Anthropic also detected that accounts tied to the Iranian state used the Claude model for public influence campaigns, propaganda activities, and translation services.
Although access to Claude is blocked in Iran, it was noted that threat actors bypassed these barriers by using virtual private networks and foreign phone numbers.
