Henna Virkkunen, European Commission Executive Vice-President for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, drew attention to the potential dangers of artificial intelligence technologies. Making assessments following a conference held in Dublin, the capital of Ireland, the official stated that there is an urgent need for global rules in artificial intelligence.

Current Regulations in the European Union

Virkkunen reminded that within the borders of the EU, companies such as Anthropic and OpenAI are obliged to assess and take precautions against the risk of advanced artificial intelligence models getting out of control. However, she pointed out that similar regulations and binding rules are not yet applied on a global scale.

Serious Warnings from Industry Employees

Discussions on risks in the field of artificial intelligence deepened with statements from former employees. Evan Hubinger, a former Anthropic employee, argued that artificial intelligence technologies could threaten human existence within a decade, sharing striking figures.

Fears Behind Closed Doors

Jacob Coxon, who resigned after working as a researcher at OpenAI and Anthropic for three years, claimed that industry employees believe in the dangers of the systems. Coxon suggested that managers experience great fear behind closed doors, even though they make moderate statements to the public.
