China-based artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek is preparing to brief the United Nations Security Council, convening in New York this week, on the risks posed by artificial intelligence.
Security Council Meeting
The United Nations Security Council will convene on Wednesday to address issues of artificial intelligence and international security. The meeting coincides with the period when world leaders gather in New York for the annual UN General Assembly.
Participation of Industry Leaders
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is expected to participate in the meeting, alongside senior representatives from Anthropic. Chinese artificial intelligence firms DeepSeek and Moonshot are also among the invited names.
Participation Plans and Details
It was stated that DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng does not plan to attend the meeting and that plans could change at the last minute. DeepSeek and Moonshot have not yet provided an official response on the matter.
International Talks and Discussions
The UN Security Council first discussed the risks of artificial intelligence in 2023. U.S. and Chinese officials agreed to hold additional discussions on artificial intelligence safety ahead of talks in Washington.
