Following a volatile week on Wall Street, global markets have focused on the Fed meeting, warnings regarding the artificial intelligence sector, and rising oil prices due to developments in the Middle East. Index futures point to a bearish start to the new week.

State of Wall Street and US Markets

Last week on Wall Street, a drop in oil prices had eased inflation concerns, and stocks posted gains on Friday. The S&P 500 index ended its four-day losing streak with an increase of nearly 0.9%, while investors turned their attention to the Fed meeting ending on Wednesday.

Warnings in the Artificial Intelligence Sector

While executives of leading artificial intelligence companies called for slowing down technological progress, these developments reflected negatively on technology exchanges and Asian markets. Nasdaq 100 futures lost over 1%.

In Asia, the Kospi Index, a barometer of artificial intelligence investments, fell by 2.4%, while chipmakers SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics lost value. Following statements by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank Group shares also experienced a sharp decline.

Middle East-Driven Oil Increase

Developments such as Saudi Arabia shutting down a pipeline and the postponement of a meeting regarding the Strait of Hormuz pushed oil prices upward. Brent crude oil prices rose by 3.2% to $107.95 per barrel.

Analyst Assessments and Bonds

Tim Waterer, chief market analyst at KCM Trade, stated that warnings to slow down the AI development process and the rise in oil prices create a challenging picture for risky assets. Additionally, the 10-year US Treasury yield approaching the 5% level is causing anxiety in the markets.

Domestic Markets and Dollar Exchange Rate

The Dollar/TL exchange rate traded at 48.62 in the morning hours. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance will carry out the initial auctions of 2-year fixed-coupon and 4-year TLREF-indexed government bonds.

Central Banks and International Agenda

European Central Bank members Isabel Schnabel and Piero Cipollone, along with ECB President Christine Lagarde, will deliver various speeches during the day. G-20 energy ministers will gather in Houston, USA, to begin meetings lasting until September 17.
