Iran's AI-Based Military and Propaganda Activities
A newly published research report has revealed that Iran-linked actors are utilizing artificial intelligence systems to monitor the U.S. Navy and conduct surveillance on Israeli targets.
A comprehensive report published by AI giant Anthropic has revealed that Iran is using American-made Claude AI models for military strategies, target acquisition, espionage, and propaganda activities.
Comprehensive Report Prepared by Anthropic
The comprehensive 154-page report prepared by AI giant Anthropic detailed how actors such as Iran, China, and Russia use artificial intelligence technologies in ways that pose security threats.
Strategic Threats Against the U.S. Navy
The report revealed that an Iran-linked threat actor used artificial intelligence systems to target American naval forces in the region and investigated security vulnerabilities in various ship systems.
The report noted that the same actor used artificial intelligence to detect and track maritime positions and compiled personnel lists obtained from publicly available military photos.
Profiling of Israel and Jewish Diaspora Organizations
It was determined that Iranian actors developed automated open-source intelligence profiling tools targeting hundreds of Israeli government and civil society members, as well as Jewish diaspora organizations.
Internal Surveillance and Propaganda Activities
The Anthropic report disclosed that certain other Iran-linked actors used the company's model to monitor and profile thousands of Iranian citizens within a year.
Weapons Development Efforts by Groups in Yemen
The report also included allegations that a group in northern Yemen used the Claude model to develop guidance software for advanced weapons, including multi-stage ballistic missiles.
