Artificial intelligence developer OpenAI is in talks to raise at least $30 billion at a valuation of approximately $1.4 trillion in a pre-IPO funding round, according to a Bloomberg report.

Investment Discussions

The maker of ChatGPT is in talks with investors to secure additional funding ahead of its anticipated initial public offering expected next year. This new funding round is planned to serve as a bridge leading up to the IPO process.

Revenue Growth and Financial Status

Although the company appeared to fall behind in competition with Anthropic earlier in the year, a strategic focus on critical areas such as coding has driven a significant surge in its revenues. Annualized revenue has increased by 70 percent since July, reaching $40 billion in August.

Previous Funding Rounds

The company previously raised $122 billion in March at an $852 billion valuation. This funding round was projected to be the company's final private fundraising move before going public.

IPO and Safety Priorities

CEO Sam Altman postponed the 2026 IPO plan to prioritize artificial intelligence safety. Altman stated that this decision was made in response to warnings from safety researchers that artificial intelligence poses existential risks.
