OpenAI President Reportedly Pulls Support From Controversial AI Super PAC

OpenAI President Greg Brockman has decided to withdraw his remaining financial support for the controversial artificial intelligence political action committee Leading the Future, following mounting public backlash and internal friction.

Establishment and Purpose of the Committee

The controversial artificial intelligence political action committee named Leading the Future was established last year to ensure the election of pro-artificial intelligence candidates in the 2026 midterm elections.

The committee drew attention with its campaigns against candidates who advocate for strict regulations and data center moratoriums.

Reactions from the Public and Employees

The general public's growing dissatisfaction with artificial intelligence and data centers made the committee's presence in the elections controversial.

Last month, more than one hundred Democratic campaign staffers published an open letter calling on party leaders not to accept donations from this committee.

Employees within OpenAI were also disturbed by the situation and donated to establish a counter fund.

Greg Brockman's Decision

Greg Brockman and his wife had initially pledged a total of $50 million in donations. According to recent reports, $25 million was donated in the first stage, but the remaining portion was abandoned.

Brockman shared messages expressing regret that the committee had become a distraction for the company.

Artificial Intelligence Safety Efforts

These developments coincided with a period when OpenAI focused on artificial intelligence safety audits and independent oversight mechanisms.

The company is taking joint steps with rival artificial intelligence labs such as Anthropic and Google DeepMind to prioritize safety.

New Infrastructure Initiative

While Brockman is withdrawing his support from the political committee, OpenAI is reportedly not giving up its fight against data center moratoriums.

The company is among the supporters of a new group called the American Infrastructure Alliance, which aims to establish data center standards by partnering with local politicians.
