People Are Telling Their Darkest Thoughts to AI Without Realizing They Can Easily Become Public

Recent research reveals that one-third of artificial intelligence users share secrets with chatbots that they would not even tell their loved ones. However, it is emphasized that these conversations do not remain completely private and can become public through legal processes or leaks.

Perception of Privacy and Realities

Although popular AI chatbots give users a sense of a private space, research shows that this is not the case. According to a survey conducted by DuckDuckGo, a significant portion of regular AI users share even their most intimate secrets with these systems.

Lack of User Awareness

The same study reveals that more than half of AI users are unaware that conversation data is used to train systems. More than three-quarters of users do not know that these chat logs can be requested by judicial authorities through subpoenas.

Legal Processes and Data Access

Reports prepared by The Washington Post show that in the past two years, there have been numerous cases where chatbot transcripts were submitted as evidence in court records. Companies like OpenAI and Anthropic can retain chat logs due to legal obligations.

Leak Risks and Warnings

Vulnerabilities on company servers increase the risk of data leaks. For example, in an incident last July, it was reported that certain chats with Anthropic's AI assistant named Claude became accessible on the open internet.
