The St. Louis Fed has introduced a new FRED MCP Connector utilizing the Model Context Protocol to facilitate access to economic data for artificial intelligence systems.

Introduction of the FRED MCP Connector

Federal Reserve Board Governor Christopher J. Waller shared details of the new tool at the FRED Con event organized by the St. Louis Fed. This developed connector allows users to connect their preferred AI agent to the FRED database.

Artificial Intelligence and Data Access

The FRED database, traditionally designed for human use, has been revisited in line with the increasing data demands of AI bots. The fact that bots interpret data differently made it necessary to adapt presentation formats.

Usage Rates and Accuracy

It was stated that half of the current FRED database visits are carried out by AI agents. Although agents generally access accurate data, some deficiencies in source attribution can occur.
