Start of the New Academic Year
As approximately 2.6 million students in schools and kindergartens across Israel begin the 2026-2027 academic year, this total includes about 180,000 first-grade students. The Ministry of Education is rolling out the new programs.
Belonging and Social Cohesion
During the first week, the Ministry of Education is focusing on strengthening social bonds, building trust, and preventing bullying. Emotional and social discussions are being conducted to reinforce students' sense of belonging.
Emphasizing that academic success cannot be separated from social and emotional well-being, feelings of safety and belonging are recognized as prerequisites for learning.
Step Forward in Financial Education
One of the most significant innovations introduced in the 2026-2027 academic year is the inclusion of financial education as a subject in the curriculum. The program will initially be taught to ninth-grade students.
Aimed at providing students with independent financial management tools, this course will later be expanded to tenth graders, preparing them for the workforce.
Artificial Intelligence and Technological Integration
Artificial intelligence is playing a much larger role in classrooms this year, with over 12,000 teachers undergoing training in this field. AI-based systems will be utilized in middle schools.
Additionally, AI science tracks have been opened in 27 schools, where students will acquire skills to use technology creatively and critically.
Developments in the Tekuma Region
The academic year in the Tekuma region opened with 22,233 students, marking a 9% increase in student numbers compared to the previous period. Families are returning to their homes in the region.
The Tekuma Administration is advancing eight major educational projects with a budget of 364 million shekels to support the long-term growth of the region and enhance community resilience.
