New Strategy Being Prepared for the Integration of Traditional and Modern Medicine in Vietnam
The Ministry of Health is drafting a comprehensive national strategy to integrate traditional medicine into the national system and increase medicinal plant capacity.
In line with changing disease patterns and increasing health demands, the Ministry of Health is preparing the National Strategy for the Development of Traditional Vietnamese Medicine up to 2030 with a vision for 2045.
Integration into the National Health System
According to the draft strategy, traditional medicine will be integrated into the national health system in areas such as prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and elderly care. This approach supports the transition from individual treatments to holistic healthcare services.
Service Capacity and Targets
The strategy aims for all commune-level health centers to be able to provide traditional medicine services by 2030. It is intended to increase examination and treatment rates at various levels.
Current Limitations and Solutions
Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan drew attention to inequalities in service delivery. The draft strategy aims to reduce dependence on imports by establishing a complete value chain from raw material areas to production.
Digitalization and Human Resources
The strategy aims to digitalize 70 percent of traditional medicine knowledge by 2030. Furthermore, it targets having three traditional medicine doctors per 10,000 people.
