Omnissa delivers a peek into the benefits of breaking through enterprise data silos

Omnissa, a former VMware unit, has introduced Elara in beta, a new AI governance authority product aimed at increasing visibility across enterprise data silos.

Core Purpose and Function of Elara

Announced in beta by Omnissa, Elara was developed as a new AI governance authority product designed to connect signals among independently operating enterprise systems.

This new software aims to provide IT and security leaders with broader context on how digital business tools, including AI applications, models, and agents, are utilized within the environment.

Example Scenario on Cross-Silo Data Sharing

Brian Link, the product manager and CTO for Elara, shared a scenario illustrating the system's potential: sending an emergency operating system update to global retail tablets.

According to Link, the system pulls inventory counts and change-freeze statuses at stores via ServiceNow, enabling decision-makers to see the security call and business trade-off together.

Experts' Warnings on Logistical and Political Challenges

Frank Dickson, principal analyst at Dickson Research, stated that overcoming enterprise data silos holds immense potential, yet it also harbors severe logistical and political challenges due to business unit managers restricting information access.

Dickson pointed out that alongside security, such tools require negotiation and permission processes involving different departments such as network operations, legal, finance, or regional business units.

Data Silos in the Tech World and Future Prospects

Brian Link stated that the company is striving to bring together such missing contexts and is adopting a different approach regarding transferring information retained in the human mind into technology.

While the product is still in beta, it is anticipated to reignite discussions surrounding data silos and cross-departmental integration in the industry.
