OpenAI Expands Policy Team for State-Level Regulations
In response to the rise in AI laws and state-level moves, the company has added three new names to its global affairs department.
OpenAI has strengthened its global affairs team with three new strategic appointments amid increasing state-level regulations and bipartisan legislative efforts in the artificial intelligence field.
New Appointments to the Global Affairs Team
In a statement made by an OpenAI spokesperson, it was noted that three key figures focusing on state policies have been included in the team.
The company has hired experienced professionals with both Democratic and Republican backgrounds to manage legislative processes across the country.
Jessica Schumer in Charge of the Northeast Region
Jessica Schumer, who served as Chief of Staff to the Council of Economic Advisers in the Obama administration and most recently led public policy efforts for Amazon in New York, will oversee policy and partnerships in the Northeast region.
Caulder Harvill-Childs Takes Role in the Southeast Region
Republican policy expert Caulder Harvill-Childs, who managed public policy for Meta and worked with Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns, will manage policies in the Southeastern states.
Thomas MacLellan in Cyber Defense Policy
Thomas MacLellan, who has over two decades of experience at Palo Alto Networks, Symantec, FireEye, and the National Governors Association, will lead OpenAI's state cyber defense policy.
Reverse Federalism Strategy
Under the strategy led by chief lobbyist Chris Lehane, powerful states are targeted to adopt similar rules to establish a de facto national standard.
This approach stands out as a counter-move against states moving swiftly ahead of Congress's legislative efforts.
