According to the investigation file, Carrasco sent messages to the AI program on August 11 stating that he wanted to kill children at Serna Elementary School. The suspect expressed his desire to obtain a weapon as soon as possible.

The FBI and the Southwest Texas Fusion Center identified Carrasco as a suspect through emergency disclosure requests involving cell phone, internet service, and IP addresses, leading to his subsequent arrest.

North East ISD officials stated that police informed them of a general school threat, but Serna Elementary School was not initially reported as the direct target. The district increased security around the campus as a precautionary measure.
