UNC Pembroke has received a federal grant of nearly $5 million from the U.S. Department of Education to integrate artificial intelligence into classrooms, enhance academic support, and identify at-risk students.

Details of the Federal Grant

UNC Pembroke announced that it has received a five-year, $4.935 million grant through the U.S. Department of Education's Title III Strengthening Institutions Program.

Artificial Intelligence Innovation Laboratory

Part of the funds will be used to establish an Artificial Intelligence Innovation Laboratory in Thomas Hall, providing students and faculty with access to new technologies.

Redesigning Courses

The university plans to revamp 10 introductory courses in English, mathematics, biology, accounting, and education with artificial intelligence literacy and career skills.

Student Tracking and Support Systems

A coordinated student support system combining advising, tutoring, and career development services will be established utilizing artificial intelligence-based tools.

Partnership with Robeson Community College

The grant will expand the partnership with Robeson Community College to ensure course alignment and improve pathways for degree completion.
