United Nations gathers global data on a single platform

The United Nations system is launching the UN System Data Commons platform, which combines global statistics held by various agencies into a single AI knowledge graph.

Consolidation of Global Data

Institutions within the United Nations compile various data each year to monitor challenges affecting work, learning, health, and quality of life. However, until now, these high-integrity statistics remained in different silos and conflicting formats.

New Platform Powered by Google Infrastructure

To solve this problem, the open-source platform built on Google's Data Commons infrastructure brings global statistics together in a single interconnected resource. Realized with support from Google.org to the UN Foundation, the project makes critical data universally accessible.

Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Search

The platform automatically integrates metrics, timelines, and geographic boundaries under a single environment. Thanks to natural language search features, users can ask questions in plain language and instantly access relevant data and interactive visualizations.

Future Goals and Scope

Built on open standards such as the Model Context Protocol, the system allows AI agents to directly retrieve official figures from the platform. The United Nations system plans to continue adding datasets over the coming year, aiming to cover 80 percent of all statistics by 2027.
