University Hospitals Assume a Pioneering Role in Advanced Medicine and Health Technologies
According to a statement by YÖK, university hospitals are enhancing Turkey's healthcare capacity through robotic surgery, organ transplants, fetal surgery, and artificial intelligence applications.
In a statement made by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), it was reported that university hospitals across Turkey are expanding high-expertise health services through their strong academic staff and advanced medical technologies.
Remote Surgery and Fetal Surgery
A remote surgery was performed between Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine and Muş State Hospital using 5G infrastructure and a domestically produced surgical robot. Meanwhile, at Hacettepe University, a congenital opening in the spinal cord of a 26-week-old baby was repaired in the womb using a closed method.
Pioneering Centers in Organ Transplantation
Akdeniz University Hospital continues its pioneering role as the center for the world's first cadaveric uterus transplant and Turkey's first double-arm and face transplants. At the Liver Transplantation Institute of Inönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center, the world's first simultaneous 8-way cross-liver transplant was performed.
Artificial Intelligence and Cancer Treatments
The CAR-T Cellular Therapies Production Center, put into service at Akdeniz University Hospital, has enabled personalized cancer treatments. At Karadeniz Technical University Farabi Hospital, a 16-year-old patient's facial deformity was analyzed using 3D modeling.
Domestic Health Technologies and Infrastructure
At Gaziantep University Şahinbey Research and Application Hospital, four clinical applications were successfully performed using the domestic heart-lung machine developed by ASELSAN. At Ege University, 308 heart transplants were performed in 28 years.
