Wilbur Wright College Faculty Member and Students Attend National Summit

Gustavo Alatta, Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems at Wilbur Wright College, and two students will share their collaborative work in the field of machine learning at the National Artificial Intelligence Summit next month.

Project to Be Featured at the National Summit

Wilbur Wright College students and Computer Information Systems Assistant Professor Gustavo Alatta will showcase their work on machine learning at the national level. This significant participation will take place as part of the National Artificial Intelligence Summit scheduled for next month.

The team will join more than 200 educators, industry leaders, and innovators who have come together to examine how artificial intelligence is transforming education and the workforce.

Students' Club Experience

This opportunity arose from the students' desire to gain more hands-on experience in their future fields. Dakota, a Software Development student, joined the Computer Information Systems club and met Professor Alatta.

Lisa, studying Web Development, joined the club in her first semester and took on the role of president, contributing to the work alongside other members.

Model Development with the Titanic Dataset

Students and club members began the process by receiving training in data cleaning, Amazon Web Services, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. This process evolved into a group project creating a passenger survival prediction model using the Titanic dataset.

Dakota and Lisa took the project a step further by building a website where users can enter information and see survival predictions.

Academic Work and Summit Presentation

Professor Alatta encouraged expanding this idea, writing a proposal, and presenting the project at the national summit. Alatta will also present his own research at the summit focusing on artificial intelligence development and the infrastructure supporting STEM education.
