Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan visited Syria on September 13-14 and held a meeting in Damascus with Syrian Foreign Minister Asad Hasan Shaibani.
Following the meeting, the two ministers held a joint press conference and announced that bilateral relations have gained great momentum over the past two years and that the aim is to raise the trade volume to 10 billion dollars.
Economic and Infrastructure Projects
According to data from the official Syrian agency SANA, twenty-two Syrian ministries and institutions have established institutional ties with their counterparts in Turkey.
While cooperation continues in areas such as energy, transportation, industrial zones, and transit crossings, electricity supply to northern Syria began with an energy agreement in May 2025.
Regional and Strategic Assessments
It was stated that Syria reached an agreement to lay a submarine communication cable named Ebla between Tartus and Cyprus, and that the line will be put into operation in early 2028.
On the other hand, experts evaluated that Ankara's influence and military presence in Syria could pose a security risk for Israel.
