India's Statement on US Russia Sanctions Bill

Details of the Sanctions Bill

The new legislation passed by the US Congress, targeting Russia and Iran, focuses on vessels that allow Moscow to evade sanctions on oil shipments and targets the country's leadership.

The Lindsay O Graham 2026 Sanctions on Russia and Iran Act, which was approved in the Senate last month, passed in the House of Representatives with 262 votes to 159, reaching the stage of being submitted to the president for signature.

India's Emphasis on Energy Security

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that they are closely monitoring the steps taken by Washington and the developments regarding the bill.

In the statement, it was expressed that the country's energy security for its 1.4 billion population will be resolutely maintained based on diversified sources and market dynamics.

Protection of Economic and Commercial Interests

The Indian side recalled that the oil trade conducted with Russia has been discussed at a high level with US officials in recent months.

The New Delhi administration emphasized that it will take all measures to protect its commercial and economic interests and will work in coordination with industrial enterprises.

Alternative Supply Quests

India, which is the largest buyer of seaborne Russian crude oil, is making preparations against potential risks.

Indian refineries have already turned to suppliers in different regions such as the US, Brazil, Canada, Venezuela, and Africa in order to diversify their purchases.
